What Is Age Grading?

Age grading is a method used in athletics to compare running performances across different ages and between men and women. Because performance naturally declines with age, age grading adjusts race performances using statistical factors so that performances can be compared fairly.

An age-graded score of 100% would equal the world best performance for your age and event. Most recreational runners fall between 40% and 60%, while competitive club runners are typically above 60%.

Age grading is commonly used in masters athletics, parkrun results, and running clubs.
